Protected: Harbor Educators

Making Connections between Harbor Educators

The NY-NJ Harbor Estuary encompasses the waters of New York Harbor and the tidally influenced portions of all rivers and streams flowing into it. Estuaries are transition zones between land and sea, fresh and salt water. The amount of freshwater flowing into an estuary varies from season to season and year to year. This variation coupled with the daily rise and fall of tides and resulting movement of salt water up and down river creates a unique environment.

Principles and Practice

There are six core principles that have been identified by practitioners in the NY-NJ Harbor Estuary as needs for informal educators. They include:

  • Networking and Partnerships
  • Sharing Best Educational Practices & Resources
  • Professional Development and Specific Content Area Training
  • Collective Impact
  • NGSS and Applying them to Existing Programs
  • Field Science and Project-Based Programming
